Seedream 5.0 Pro: What It Is and What It Can Do

Seedream 5.0 Pro is a multimodal image model for generating and editing images, announced by the ByteDance Seed team on 8 July 2026. It turns text or up to 10 reference images into images at 1K, 1.5K or 2K, and it adds location-based editing, layer separation and text in many languages. BytePlus calls it the Seedream model creators can use today.
What Seedream 5.0 Pro is
Seedream 5.0 Pro is the high-precision member of the Seedream 5.0 generation.
- Seedream 5.0 is a model generation, not one model. Documented variants include Pro, Lite and Flash.
- Pro puts image quality first. Flash is the faster, lower-cost option.
- Pro launched in July 2026 in China and in international markets at the same time.
- Compared with earlier versions, it improves image-text alignment, structure, text rendering and visual quality.

- It renders realistic lighting, materials and skin texture.
- It makes one image per request. Batch sets and streaming are not supported yet.
- It has no 4K tier. Seedream 5.0 Lite covers 2K to 4K.
- Its developers say fine text and pixel-level edit consistency still have room to improve.
Where you can use it, and how it relates to 5.5
Seedream 5.0 Pro is available on creator apps and through an API today. Seedream 5.5 has not been released at the time of writing (October 2026).
- Browser apps: Dreamina AI and Lumina let you generate and edit without code.
- API: BytePlus ModelArk serves developers outside China; Volcano Engine serves China.
- Versions before it: Seedream 4.0 arrived in September 2025 and 4.5 in December 2025. Seedream 5.0 Lite followed in February 2026.

How to write prompts for Seedream 5.0 Pro
Write full sentences that say what the image is for, not a list of keywords.
A pattern from the Seedream documentation:
Create [image type] for [purpose]. Show [subject and action] in [environment]. Use [style, color, lighting and composition]. Keep [fixed elements] and change [target elements].
- Name the use. "A website hero image with space for a headline" works better than "a landscape".
- Quote your text. Put every word that must appear in the image inside double quotation marks.
- Say what each reference gives. For example: the product from image 1, the style from image 2.
- Edit with clear verbs. Use add, remove, replace or change, and avoid vague words like "it".
- Point, then describe. Circle or box the area, then write "Add a lamp inside the red box."
- Check the result. Look over the text, faces and product details before you use the image.
